Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Backlines collects through this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

01Who we are

Backlines provides white-label Shopify theme production for agencies. We are based in South Africa. For POPIA purposes, Backlines is the responsible party for the personal information described here.

02What we collect

We only collect what you choose to send us through the enquiry form:

• Your name and agency name
• Your work email address

If we start working together, you may later share design files or pages with us. We only use those to build and test the work you ask for.

If you email us directly, we also keep that email and your address. We do not use analytics, tracking pixels or advertising cookies on this website.

03Why we use it

• To reply to your application and set up a call
• To quote for, plan and deliver work you ask us to do
• To keep a record of our conversations with you

We process this information because you asked us to contact you, and because we need it to take steps towards an agreement with you. We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not add you to marketing lists without asking.

04Your client's information

We work behind your agency and never contact your clients. If a design or brief you send us contains personal information about your client or their customers, we only use it to build and test the theme you asked for. Please only share what we need for the build.

05Who else sees it

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run this website and our email:

• FormSubmit delivers the enquiry form to our inbox.
• Netlify hosts this website and keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
• Zoho Mail hosts our email.
• Google Fonts serves the fonts on this site, so your browser connects to Google when the page loads.

Some of these providers store information outside South Africa. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard similar to POPIA. We may also share information where the law requires it.

06How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for as long as we need them to respond and, if we work together, for the length of the project plus any period the law requires for business records. Enquiries that don't lead to work are deleted within 12 months.

07How we protect it

This website runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to our inbox and project files is limited to the people at Backlines who need it, and our accounts are protected with strong passwords and two-factor authentication where available.

08Your rights

Under POPIA, you can ask us to:

• Confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you a copy of it
• Correct information that is wrong or out of date
• Delete your information
• Stop using your information, or object to how we use it

Email info@backlines.co.za and we'll respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.

If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
